Ex-MLA said that this is an historic decision as the first hurdle has been passed. In conversation with ET, she said women has been given their right which they were demanding from last several years. In India, women is playing an important role, and has achieved big posts like IAS, president, doctors, engineers, politicians, pilots etc. For example Sonia Gandhi, Indira Gadhi, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Meera Kumar and others. MLA Indu Pawar, taking to ET correspondent from New Delhi, said that this is a historic step and all those should be congratulated who support it full. You know, history has been made and women has been given its first rights. Its an achievement of Sonia Gandhi, Congress Party and others who unequibally supported the bill women's bill passed with 186 to 1 votes. Sakina Bano, BJP Mahila Morcha President, said that the issue of 33% reservation to women was first raised by Bhartiya Janta party in 1996. Though it has been passed in Rajya Sabha by a vast majority, I hope it would go through in Lok Sabha as well. This is the first step towards real democracy. We want 50% reservation as it being written in constitution, but nevertheless some thing is better than nothing. MLA Shamima Firdous, (NC) from Habba Kadal was of the opinion that women has passed first hurdle Women Reservation Bill passed in Rajya Sabha with huge margin is a historic step towards rights of women and the next step will be when it will get through in Lok Sabha. I congratulate to Sonia Gandhi, chairperson PM Manm-ohan Singh, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, MP and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for this historic decision. You know NC has also supported this bill.
Dr. Renu Nanda
Department of Education, Jammu University in her comment on women's reservation bill said that women should not depend on reservation, they should carve space for themselves. Women should come out of home and try to achieve whatever she wants to No doubt, women in India has remained under stress, hegemony and shadow of male, with the reservation she will get 33% in parliament, assemblies, but my opinion is that she should come out herself and become independent. Veena Handa, chairperson, Handa college of Education and noted social worker, said that it would have been more appropriate, if it would had been passed on women's international day. But still, I am happy that this reservation will give more power to women. It was a long cherished dre-am which was come true. Though hi-story has not been created but still a glorious moment for women folk.
