| Akhoon calls on Defence Minister | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, March 09: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, accompanied by MP Ladakh, Ghulam Hassan Khan today called on Defence Minister AK Antony at New Delhi and requested for increasing frequency of AN-32 Courier Service sorties between Kargil to Srinagar and Jammu for Kargil bound passengers, as the region remains cut off from rest of the world for more than 6 months during winter. Akhoon apprised the Defence Minister that out of 232 allotted sorties for AN-32 Courier Service from kargil to Srinagar and Jammu, only 77 sorties could be operational which has caused much inconvenience to the Kargil bound passengers especially students and patients. He requested the Defence Minister for additional air sorties to fill up the gap between allotted sorties. He also urged for increasing frequency of helicopter service to Zanskar so that Zanskar bound passengers and patients stranded at Kargil could reach to their homes. Akhoon also requested Antony for relocation of the existing Army Camp at Kurbathang Plateau and shifting of firing range kurbathang to some alternate site so that the plateau could be thrown open for people especially for grazing of sheep and cattle.
