| KU's VC has a security advisor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 9: As if his fleet of vehicles was not enough to find him a place in the list of VIPs that the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University has opted for a security advisor. According to informed sources, Professor Riyaz Punjabi has appointed a retired police officer as his security advisor. The person, who now advises the Vice Chancellor on security issues, happens to be his childhood friend. Besides a vehicle, the security advisor gets Rs 10000 as honorarium. "It is unheard off," says a retired professor, adding, "I don't know about other countries but in India, no university has a security advisor for its Vice Chancellor." The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kashmir University, Showkat Shafi refused to comment. He said only Chief Proctor could comment on the issue. "It is Chief Proctor Mr. Nissar Ahmad who deals with such issues. You better talk to him", he said. The Chief Procotor said nobody had been appointed as VC's security advisor. However, sources while confirming the appointment had other information to share with the scribes. "He has appointed his special secretary as well in total violation of recruitment rules", they said. Shockingly the VC ensured a dual salary for his special secretary by appointing him as coordinator of e-governance, wherefrom he gets Rs.10,000 monthly honorarium, sources said. The PRO evaded the query saying the Registrar would explain it better. However, the Registrar did not respond. "You better talk to the PRO", he said.
