| Zargar stresses for adopting modern agri-techniques | | | Srinagar, October 12 -Emphasizing on adoption of modern technology in farming activities, Minister for Agriculture, Co-operatives and Fisheries Abdul Aziz Zargar has called upon farmers to make optimal use of agriculture inputs available to them under various schemes for boosting production. Mr. Zargar was addressing farmers at an awareness camp organized by Command Area Development Department at Salamabad, Uri the other day. Director, Command Area Development Kashmir Dr. G.H. Shah and senior officers of Agriculture department were also present on the occasion. The Minister said government has accorded top priority to creation and augmentation of irrigation infrastructure with a focus on adopting scientific techniques in water management. In Uri, he said as many as 42 villages having an area of 3794 hectares have been taken up by Directorate of Command Area Development Department under Water Management Programme. Earlier, in his welcome address Director Command Area Development department highlighted the importance of water management in the backdrop of depletion of water resources in the state. He informed that the department has so far brought 700 hectares under water management programme and for the purpose infrastructure worth Rs. 1.20 crore has been created. He said an amount of Rs. 35 lakh is being utilized on creation of new field channels during current fiscal while the department has incurred Rs. 40 lakh on restoration of 66 field channels which were damaged in the devastating earthquake of last year. A photo exhibition depicting creation and augmentation of Field channel network of Uri Tehsil was also organized on the occasion. |
