| Training programme for PD officers concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 10: A 3-day training programme for officers of Prisons Department (PD) organized by the J&K Prisons Department in association with Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India concluded here today. Speaking at the valedictory function, Financial Commissioner, Home Depa-rtment, Samuel Verghese, who also holds the additional charge of Chief Secretary, lauded the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department. Verghese appreciated the idea of starting such training programmes where prison officers from outside the state can learn about the working and management of prisons in Jammu and Kashmir and interact with the staff as well as jail inmates. He said that it was a matter of pride that the Bureau of Police Research & Development has chosen Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department for the first time to organize this series of three courses. This was the second training course under the ongoing series under the theme "Seeing is Learning". The states represented in the programme included Sikkim, Haryana, Tamilnadu, Karn-ataka, Assam, Megh-alaya, Mahar-ashtra and the hosts Jammu and Kashmir. Director General of Police Prisons Dr Ashok Bhan, Superintendent Central Jail Jammu Mirza Saleem Beig, senior officers of Prisons Department, ICRC delegates and academicians were among others who participated in the programme. On the occasion, participation certificates were distributed amongst the trainees by the Chief Guest while Course Director Rajani Sehgal, Superintendent District Jail Udhampur presented the vote of thanks.
