| Congress under fire for supporting disqualification bill | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 11: Leader of Women Power Commission and General Secretary of State Panthers Party, Anita Thakur has criticized the Congress party for `facilitating introduction of the Women Disqualification Bill. In a state issued here today, Anita accused the Congress of conniving with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to facilitate introduction of the bill in the legislative council. The bill, according to Anita shall deprive women of their civil and fundamental rights. The Women Power Commission condemns the Congress and its ministers who allowed the bill to be introduced in the Legislative Council though under the State Constitution no bill to amend the State Constitution could be introduced in the Council. This has been explicitly made clear in section 147 of the state constitution, Anita said. "The women of Jammu Kashmir never allow this treachery of the Congress party. The Congress, in spite of Sonia Gandhi's clear directions to oppose the bill in 2007 has connived with the PDP for petty political reasons", she said. "I commend the role of Panthers Party especially of Professor Bhim Singh as MLC to defeat this attempt of the Congress, National Conference and PDP when it was brought on the Floor of Legislative Council. This was defeated by tireless efforts of Bhim Singh who managed to seek support of Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh to restrain the Congressmen in state from committing suicide", She said. Anita threatened agitation under the leadership of Professor Bhim Singh to oppose, expose and depose the "corrupt, criminal and gender-biased government." Thanking the Jammu Bar Association for its support, she sought support of the people of the state to fight the `evil machinations' of the government. "The Women Power shall hold seminars, meetings and discussions on the streets to oppose this criminal and anti-women bill", she said. Urging Sonia Gandhi to explain the position of his ministers in Jammu Kashmir for their anti-women agenda, Anita demanded immediate expulsion of what she called stooges of National Conference.
