| GCW Gandhi Nagar lifts overall C’ship trophy, Jammu University holds prize distribution function | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 11: Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organised the prize distribution function for "Display Your Talent" 2009-10 at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium her today.
By virtue of winning the maximum number of prizes in the fine arts, literary events, music, dance and theatrical competitions under "Display Your Talent" 2009-10, the team from Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar emerged as the over all champion and lifted the coveted trophy while Government Women's College, Parade again had to settle for the runners-up trophy.
Prof Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor compli-mented the prize winners and hoped that the talented students shall perform well in the forth coming zonal as well as National Youth Festivals and bring laurels to the university.
Kanwar Iqbal, from the Government Medical College, Jammu bagged the Prof YB Singh memorial trophy for overall best performance in fine arts. He was also adjudged as the over all 'Best Student' in the contest and was presented with Pankaj Mohan Bhatia Memorial trophy.
Dr Jagmohan Singh Memorial Trophy for the best team in Debating was awarded to Government College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu whereas Dr Surinder Sharma Memorial Trophy for the best team in quiz went to the Government Degree College, Kathua.
Government Women College, Parade clinched Dr JR Sharma Memorial Trophy and Vijay Verma Memorial Trophy for over all best performance in music.
Prof Santosh Sharma Memorial Trophy for the all round best performance in Theatrical events was lifted by the Government Women's College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Medals and special mementos were awarded to Priya Raina and Rahul Kumar for excelling in the National Youth Festival, held at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak in mimicry and light vocal music, respectively. All the prize winners and the participants of North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival and National Youth Festival were awarded medals and souvenir.
Awards of appreciation were also presented to the Rameshwari Slathia, secretary, students cultural council, Ankita Gupta, Indu Bagal and Meenakshi Anand, joint secretaries of the students cultural council, Mementos were also given to prof. VS Manhas, Dr. Kamlesh Slathia and kulbushan Thakur, who escorted the Jammu university cultural troupe for participation in zonal and national youth festival.
A photo presentation of the Display Your Talent titled "Going Down the Memory Lane" conceived and deisgned by Vijay Atri, Assistant Dean (ICA), Mime by the students of GGM Science College and a Gujarati dance performed by the team from Government Women's College, Parade were presented on the occasion. Prof JS Tara, Dean Students Welfare, delivered the welcome address while Prof GM Bhat, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee presented the Vote of Thanks.
Among others Dr PS Pathania, Registrar, Prof. Versha Mehta, Co-chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, heads of the teaching departments, principals and staff of the affiliated colleges, members of the campus cultural committee, students and faculty members of the university were also present on the occasion.
