| Deliberate move to keep situation in J&K on boil: BJP | | Introduction of PR Disqualification Bill in LC | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 11: The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opposed the Private Members' Bill moved by PDP legislator in Legislative Council seeking disqualification of permanent resident rights of women of the State who marry outside the state. The Party demanded Women Reservation Bill to be passed in Jammu and Kashmir Legislature on the patter on bill passed in Rajya Sabha couple of days back. "We express our total disagreement with the Private Members Bill introduced in Legislative Council by PDP legislator, Murtaza Khan as it is against the spirit of the State Constitution and its preamble, which guarantees equal rights and opportunities to the women," Chaman Lal Gupta, Leader of BJP Legislature Party told reporters here. Criticizing coalition government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for maintaining "silence" on the introduction of bill, Gupta said, "Both the National Conference and the Congress should have not allowed the introduction of the bill at its initial stage." "The matter has been settled by the judiciary and there is no logic to reopen the issue," he said while condemning the role of Congress for not rejecting the bill. He asked the government to explain as to why a number of bills with National outlook were not allowed to be introduced in the assembly. "The Bill aimed at bringing down the tenure of State Assembly from six years to five years was not allowed to be introduced. Same was done with the bill for granting rights to refugees as also another one meant for protection of rights of SCs," he maintained. Gupta further maintained, "Bringing up this Bill for introduction in State Legislative Council was a deliberate move by PDP that wants to keep the situation in Jammu and Kashmir on boil". Flanked by former State president of the party, Ashok Khajuria, Gupta said that the party would extend full support to the bill granting reservation to the women. "The BJP is not there to play cheap power politics and would fully cooperate with the state government over the issue of giving reservation to women," they said adding, "We urge the government to come openly to make same type of Act in the State Legislature." Khajuria warned that the party would not allow the smooth proceedings of the assembly if the PDP's bill introduced in council is allowed for consideration. "Had we taken up this issue at the very outset, we would have been labeled as opportunists vying for the political mileage out of it. We want to fight this discrimination in its actual perspective and would see that such Bill is defeated in the Lower House", said Khajuria.
