| Prisons Deptt organises training prog | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 11: A 3-day training programme on the theme "Seeing is Learning" organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India at District Jail, Jammu began here today. In his inaugural address, former Director General of Police A C Chaturvedi said when terrorist violence began in Jammu and Kashmir, we were overtaken by events. The Police as well as Prison administration were under tremendous pressure. How they coped up with the situation is an experience which can be shared with delegates from other states. The security scenario in some parts of the country may require preparedness on the part of prisons administration in these states, he added Based on his practical experience, Chaturvedi averred that different states and even geographical regions have certain traditions and customs which are reflected in management of prisons also. The trainees can benefit from sharing such traditions and good practices so that such practices can be emulated for better results. Director General of Police, Prisons Dr Ashok Bhan in his keynote address identified areas where J&K Prisons Department has acquired expertise. He advised delegates from outside the state to study the security arrangements in prisons, interact with inmates involved in different types of crimes and evaluate various rehabilitation programmes that are being undertaken in the jails. Simultaneously, he advised trainees from J &K state to interact and learn from the experiences of officers from outside. Mirza Saleem Beig, Superintendent Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal welcomed the guests while Rajni Sehgal, Course Director presented the vote of thanks.
