Early Times Report
Change is the way in Ramban where Ashok Kumar of Congress is ninth few face since 1962. Chaman Lal of NC won in 2002 and now Ashok Kumar of Congress defeats Bali Bhagat of BJP by a margin 11460 votes. Ramban constituency was reserved for SC in 1977.
Ashok Kumar interacted with ET correspondent, where he talked about constituency its merits / demerits, and development works in detail. Here is a brief elaboration of the interaction.
Ashok Kumar (Congress MLA from Ramban):
As Ramban assembly segment spread over a large and hilly terrain, hundreds of villages in my constituency still don't have road connectivity.
Being a member of ruling alliance, I would expect that the minister for finance, Abdul Rahim Rather would allocate special package for connectivity to far-off places in Ramban constitutency. "Still hundreds of villages are inaccessible and people have to walk on feet for kilometers together. If you don't have road connectivity, development in other sectors would remain elusive," the MLA said.
Besides road connectivity, we have great expectation from the coalition government that it would announce measures for improving health sector in remote areas of the state. "The hospitals particularly sub-district and primary health centres, where infrastructure is very poor, we hope the government would take measures for improvement of these institutions so that the people could be provided better health care system.
"As per as power sector is concerned, my constituency still has 20-25 villages which are still un-electrified. For instance Dessa, Sadan, Chortha and Balihota villages don't have electricity. Government should take a keen interest in providing electricity to these villages and I hope the ruling alliance would allocate special funds for electrification of rural areas." He maintained.
Last but not the least, the government's main thrust should be on providing potable water to villages where streams and other water resources got dried due to existing dry spell, he said.
Over surrender policy proposed by the Chief Minsiter Omar Abdullah, he said, " It should rather a policy of rehabilitation for all those who got affected due to militancy and even inroad mishaps.
"There is no harm if somebody wants to return to this side of Line of Control with in constitutional limits of India," he maintained.
