| Yashpal disassociates himself from PDP, says was never its member | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 12: Disassociating himself from Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) with whom he once shared political stage in Poonch, Yashpal Sharma today said he would field his candidates from all the 17 Poonch wards for the forthcoming municipaly polls. Yashpal, a former Congress leader, had quit the party after he was denied ticket from the Poonch assembly segment in the bypolls held after the death of MLA G M Jaan. After leaving Congress, he had supported PDP candidates in Poonch district and addressed rallies with former chief minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Syed. Speaking to scribes in Poonch, he said he was never a basic PDP member and had supported the party because of his personal relations with the Mufti. Yashpal did not contested the last assembly elections as PDP had not given him ticket from the Poonch seat and had fielded Imitiaz Bandey in his place. He said as he did not have a political party of his own, he had decided to field his candidates as independents from all the 17 wards of the Poonch Municipal Committee (PMC)."I am sure we will come in majority in PMC," he added. Yashpal alleged that most of the Rs 67 cr released to PMC for development works had been embezzled as a result of which no major development activity could take off in the area. "If we come in majority in the upcoming PMC polls, I will not hesitate from holding an indepth probe into the alleged misuse of funds," he asserted. Yashpal said he had already started approaching people to make him and his candidates successful in the PMC polls.
