| NSS camp at MIER College enters 3rd day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 12: Annual National Service Scheme (NSS) camp with a theme of 'Hygiene & Environment' which began at MIER College of Education on March 10 today entered into third day. NSS Programme Officer Poonam Soni along with 50 NSS volunteers from the college is working tirelessly during the ongoing the camp. The main objectives of the NSS camp is to work for the up-gradation of the campus, encourage the volunteers to work along with adults, develop character, social consciousness, commitment, discipline among volunteers, develop potential in youth leaders, emphasize dignity of labour and combine physical work to form self help groups in areas of adoption through psycho - social pursuits. The objectives also include awareness about the diseases including AIDS and Hepatitis-B to create awareness regarding disability among youth and students and to promote the cause of inclusive education for disabled children, and lastly to generate awareness among volunteers to recognize the need for protecting, preserving and conserving environment and its resources. Various activities are being conducted during the camp to meet the above objectives. The daily activities include Yoga sessions, sports and physical activities for NSS volunteers. Volunteers will provide services to various wings of MIER and under Institutional Project they will work for the improvement of the campus. Various cultural programmes, Extension lectures on various topics and Quiz competitions on the theme 'Hygiene' & 'Environment' are also been organized during the camp. The NSS Team of volunteers will also visit Slum Areas, Kabir Basti, SOS Home , Chhanni Rama, Mother Teressa's Home, Janipur, Old Age Home, Ambphala.
