Gender Bias: Issueless and confused BJP also opposes PRDB

RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 12: The state Unit of the BJP has no agenda. Its leadership is confused and issueless and it acts only when the people register their protest against official policies, which, they believe, are anti-people, anti-Jammu and anti-India. That's the reason no one in Jammu or elsewhere in the country takes the BJP seriously.
That the local unit of the BJP is issueless and confused could be seen from its indifferent attitude to the three most recent developments - submission of the report of the Working Group on Centre-State Relations, beheading of two Sikhs in Pakistan and the introduction of the draconian and anti-daughters' Private Member's Bill in the Legislative Council.
What did the BJP do when the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) urged the people of Jammu province to observe a complete shutdown in order to register protest against the Justice Saghir Ahmed's pro-autonomy report, which was submitted to the J&K Chief Minister on December 23 last?
The BJP did not support the bandh call. On the contrary, one senior BJP leader told a local English language daily that it was for the JKNPP to make the proposed bandh a successful affair and it was not the duty of the BJP to make common cause with JKNPP on the issue.
Still the angry people of Jammu province observed a massive bandh indicating their determination to oppose the recommendations as contained in the Working Group report. It was a snub to the BJP.
And, when finally the BJP realized its mistake and organized a dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan to convey an impression that it was also opposed to the pro-autonomy and anti-Jammu recommendations, it was a lackluster affair, despite the fact that 10 MLAs took part in the dharna, which was organized much later and under compulsion. The number of those who took part in the dharna was not even one hundred. The BJP made a mockery of itself.
What did the BJP do when the enraged and angry Sikh community urged the people of Jammu province to observe bandh on February 23 to register their emphatic protest against the communal government of Pakistan, which had failed to protect the lives of Jaspal Singh and Mahal Singh? The barbarous and inhuman Taliban had beheaded Jaspal Singh and Mahal Singh in cold blood because they did not pay jazia to them and threw their heads in front of a Gurudwara in Peshawar. It was a massive bandh.
The BJP did not support the bandh call. It condemned the beheading of the two young Sikhs a day later convinced that it had committed a great mistake by not extending support to the bandh call. A number of Sikh organizations later on organized press conferences to express their gratitude to the people of Jammu province for their unstinted support and at the same time to expose the BJP for its indifferent attitude towards the aggrieved Sikhs.
What did the BJP do after the People's Democratic Party legislator Murtaza Khan introduced a Private Member's Bill, titled Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill, in the Legislative Council on March 8 - Bill aimed at snatching the citizenship rights of female state subjects marrying non-state subjects?
Unlike the JKNPP and the Bar Association Jammu, the BJP did not do anything to register its protest against the anti-daughters obnoxious Bill. But when on March 10 the Bar Association Jammu declared that it would strike work in all the courts on March eleven, the confused, clueless, issueless and insensitive BJP realized its mistake and organized half-heartedly a press conference on the day the Bar Association struck work. That the BJP took four long days to make up its mind to register its protest against the Private Member's Bill speaks for itself.
This is the BJP. No wonder then that its leadership has become a laughing stock and an object of ridicule and contempt.
