| Congress MLA stages walkout | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 12: In what could be described as embarrassing for the National Conference led coalition government when one of its legislators, Vikar Rasool today accused the ruling dispensation of following "discriminatory" policies vis-à-vis providing State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses to Ramban district. Infuriated over government's "biased" approach, the Congress legislator from Banihal assembly segment also staged walk-out from the House. It all began when Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon was replying to a question of Vikar Rasool regarding total number of road mishaps registered in erstwhile Doda district during last ten years and number of RTC buses pressed into services in Ramban district. In his reply, the Minister informed that 34 buses have been scheduled to be pressed into services in Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts to ply on identified number of routes of Ramban Kishtwar and Doda districts. The Minister informed the House that 4472 road accidents were registered during last ten years in erstwhile district Doda. Raising supplementaries to his question, the Congress MLA from Banihal alleged large scale "corruption" in transport department and said that the government officials have developed a "nexus" with erring transporters. "Yeh Jo Likha Hai Sara Fraud Hai. Ground Level Par Kuch Bhi Implement Nahi Hua Hai…..(Whatever has been written here, it is all fraud. Nothing has been implemented on ground)," Vikar Rasool. He went on saying that the Government has adopted a policy of "appeasement" and benefit has been given to its favourites. "Only three RTC buses have been given for Ramban district while 34 buses have been pressed into services for erstwhile Doda district. "It is discriminatory and the Government should press more RTC buses for Ramban district. Log Humare Zyada Marte Hai, Accidents Humare Yaha Zyada Hote Hai Aur Buses Kam Di Jaati Hai..(More loss to lives of people occurs in our area and more accidents occur in our district but fewer buses have been given to us)," he said. National Conference MLA from Kishtwar, Sajjad Kitchloo, however countered the assertions of the Congress MLA and said, "Since RTC buses have been pressed into services in erstwhile Doda district, less number of road accidents have been reported in Kishtwar and Doda districts. Commissioner/Secretary Transport has rightly made the demand of Rs 20 crore for improving transport system in erstwhile Doda district and the Government should be look into the demand." Soon after the remarks of NC legislator, Vikar Rasool left his seat and entered the well charging the ruling dispensation with "appeasing" its favourites. The furious MLA while expressing his resentment staged walk out from the House. Chaman Lal Gupta, Ashok Kumar and Jagdish Raj Sapolia also raised supplementaries.
