| Jammu artists braces for maiden venturing into “Theater of Convenience” | | | SIDDHARTH Jammu, March 13: Another chapter in state theatrical history is all set to unfold on Monday as seven short plays festival is being held at Abhinav theatre. The venture envisaged by Vikram Sharma, the most vibrant artist of the state who has recently performed the first English theater in state in drama competition would include prizes also given to the best performers in different categories. “The idea to come out with such festival is to provide a platform to the performing artists so that they could be able to showcase their fluent talent independently without remaining in hunt for some theatrical groups for their performance, said Vikram Sharma while talking to this reporter. He said that there is no dearth of good artists in the state, but since the art form being very expensive and no financial support coming from any quarter, the artists feel deprived and disturbed and hence lag behind. The concept designed as “theatre of convenience” under his organization of Odeon Odyssey, the basic idea of the festival is to conduct one-day a performing as well as an interacting rendezvous among the artists of different genre who may get a chance to exert their potential to the greatest maximum zeniths in minutest minimum time. “For gauging it as a performance, foremost idea should be considering the caliber of a performer while giving him or her a convenience to perform in autonomy so that the artist could be able to pronounce his latent talent to the hilt,” said Vikram Sharma adding, “my vision of theatre of convenience is based on these fundamentals, the legacy of which I would be carrying forwarded in my forthcoming productions in all dialects. It is pertinent to mention here that Vikram after giving a historical performance in recent English play by bagging best actor award is coming up with another bigger English production, now on a sensitive issue of French revolutionist Napoleon Bonaparte. Giving details of the “the Carnival” of seven one-day short plays drama competition being held on Monday, he said that best production awardee of State Academy besides best actors and directors of the state are participating in the show. Rangshalla theatre Group, Natrya Natya Kunj, Manoranjana Kala Kender, Perfect productions, Rangbhoomi among others are participating groups with their performing actors occupying the centre stage for a contest that would be a unique sort of drama competition, besides being first of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir. “Vikram is a real exponent of true theatrical idiom and by providing us with this type of theatre, he really has infused a novel concept and a transition in theater performance which is the actual need in contemporary setting,” said Himanshu Darshan, a three time best actor awardee of the state who recently created a history by bagging three straight awards in recently concluded drama competition held by Jammu and Kashmir academy of Art, Culture and Languages. He is also participating in “the Carnival”. The event would start in the morning at 12 noon and after every half hour of production, it will get a changeover of 15 minutes for the second group to perform which would culminate with prize distribution to the best chosen by the panel of jury. “I am very excited to be a part of the show as it is for the first time that many artists of different origin would be performing collectively under the one roof. Vikram sharma deserves appreciation for undertaking this tedious and most difficult of the task in theatrics,” said Aditya, director Rangbhoomi who is performing his show named Musafir Khana in “The Carnival”.
