| Out of 5224, Jammu gets paltry 744 | | Registration Industrial units | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 13: The low figures of registered industrial units in Jammu region as compared to Kashmir division during 2009 has once more given weightage to the accusations that Jammuites are being 'ignored' and 'discriminated' in every sphere of life by successive state governments. According to official data, 5224 Industrial Units have been registered in the state during last year but surprisingly only 744 units were registered in Jammu division whereas, in comparison, whopping 4480 units got registered in Kashmir region. In Jammu province, only 249 of the total registered units have started production while 1008 units in Kashmir have began production since 2009. The financial investment of these units has been to the tune of Rs 88,667.93 lakhs with contribution of Jammu region, as far as capital incurred is concerned, was staggering amount of Rs 77, 305. 22 lakhs while the Kashmir region's part in investments had been meager Rs 11,362.71 lakhs. These units require184245 Horse Power (HP) of electricity out which Jammu's industrial units need 13135 HP where as the requirement of units belonging to Kashmir division is 5290 HP. Going by the overall investment figures of the entire state, Samba district of Jammu province tops the chart with capital investment of Rs 41,161.53 lakhs. Out of 100 units in Samba district, 23 have been engaged in production. Jammu district is on the second spot among 22 districts of the state with financial investments of Rs 32,501.67 lakhs. 422 units were registered during last year in Jammu district out of which 131 of them started production. Maximum numbers of industrial units were registered in Srinagar district. Here, 2495 units were registered during last year.
