| PK flays PRD bill | | | EARLY TIME REPORT JAMMU, Mar 13: Panun Kashmir (PK) expressed serious concern over the introduction of the Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill by a PDP member in the State Assembly. The Bill seeks to disqualify the permanent residence status of a state subject female of Jammu and Kashmir in the event of her marriage to a non-resident. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, President PK Ashwani Churangoo said that this Bill is highly dangerous as it eventually would lead to a demographic shift in the population of Jammu province. "At a time when the women of the nation are being empowered with 33 percent reservation in the polity of India, the draconian Permanent Resident (Disqualification) bill seeks to take away the hereditary rights of the women of Jammu and Kashmir State," Ashwani alleged. Besides being anti human rights and anti fundamental rights in its nature, this Bill is in complete variance with the fundamental tenets of civilized societies, he added. "Instead of addressing the issues of displacement and measures to provide succor to the terrorism effected people of the State, the government is making efforts to disfranchise the women of the State by bringing draconian Bills in the Assembly" Churangoo mentioned and added that PK will resist all such medieval measures that tend to discriminate between peoples on the basis of gender and divest people of their rightful claim on the territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Commenting on the recent reports of backdoor entry of terrorists from across the border and also from Nepal under forged passports are alarming, he said that the government seems to be pooh-poohing on the issue and giving it a silent acquiescence. In some cases, the terrorists have reportedly returned alogwith a battery of children and we wonder if all such cases are allowed what effect would it have on the security and demography of the State, he informed. Others who were present in the press conference include Prof. M.L.Raina, Chairman Political Affairs Committee and Virender Raina, National Spokesperson.
