| Mankotia stages walk out | | | Jammu: Accusing the ruling dispensation of "suppressing" the voice of deserving Public Health Engineering (PHE) workers, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) MLA from Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia today staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly during the question hour. The furious Panthers Party MLA alleged that the PHE workers, who have been working for the past 10 years and have not been recognized by the government, are getting meager salaries of Rs 300, Rs 500 and Rs 700 per month. "As they have not been recognized by the administration, the government is trying to suppress their claims through this verification process," he charged. Though the Speaker suggested the JKNPP legislator to raise his issue during Demand for Grants, Mankotia continued to raise his issue vociferously. He shouted, "In Ladko Ko Dabane Ki Koshish Ho Rahi Hai." Earlier, the Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-u-din assured the House that after completing the verification of exact number of casual labours/Community Participation Workers in the PHE department, they will be given uniform per day wages of Rs 110. The Minister was replying to supplimentaries on a question by Yash Paul Kundal Mentioning a few instances of illegal appointments of such workers, Taj said that verification becomes necessary to avoid discrepancies in the spending of the public money. He however, said that the Government was for removing the disparities in the wage rates of such workers once for all. With regard to appointment of one member of a family whose land was acquired for setting PHE scheme, the Minister said there are about 2500 pending cases of this nature which are being verified to ascertain the ownership of land and nonpayment of compensation for the same. Another JKNPP legislator, Harsh Dev Singh said, "the water crisis is looming large in Ramnagar assembly segment. Though the Government of India has agreed to provide Rs 20 crore of my constituency, the funds has not been sanctioned till date which affects the creditability of the institution." AR Veeri, Chaman Lal Gupta, Radhey Shyam Sharma and Hakeem Mohammad Yasin raised supplimentaries on the main question.
