| Punjabi literary conference concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 14:A two-day Punjabi Literary Conference organised jointly by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala and Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Jammu concluded here today. On the culminating day of the conference, a paper reading session and a Punjabi mushaira were also organised by the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha as a mark of respect for late Kirpal Singh Kasali. Earlier noted litterateurs Amrik Singh, Bachchan Bharati and Preetam Singh were felicitated by the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Jammu. On the valedictory function, Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla praised the State Cultural Academy and the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu for organising the event. "There is a great need for holding such meets as these events help people in appreciating the worth and richness of Punjabi literature," Bhalla said.Describing writers as "God gifted persons" Bhalla said that writers had great rapport with people and influence public opinion. In his address MLC TS Wazir said that Punjabi was a rich language and it would have great influence in times ahead provided such meets were organised on regular basis. "There are certain deficiencies as far as promotion of Punjabi language on part of Punjabi Lekhak Sabha is concerned. These must be made up," Wazir said. On day first of the Punjabi Conference, Kirpal Singh Kasali's conceived and directed play "Oh Jammya Hee Nahin, Jis Lahore Nahin Vakhia" was staged by Kasali's daughter Dr Jasmeet Kour on her father's behalf, who passed away a fortnight ago. Commenting on the play Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that such plays had a deeper message and meaning and were the need of the hour. The programme proceedings were conducted by Editor Punjabi, Dr Arvinder Singh Aman on behalf of Cultural Acdemy while Amar Singh Kooka presented the welcome address. |
