| 'Board asked to expedite selection of KP youths' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 14: Subordinate Services Selection Board has started screening process of the applications received from over 12,000 youths belonging to the displaced families from Kashmir valley to fill 3,000 posts for which the union government will meet the wage bill. Official sources said that the Board has been asked by the Revenue Department that in order to expedite the selection due weight should be given to merit only. In reply to a question the sources said that selection would be done on basis of the marks secured in various examinations. Sources further divulged that the state government has requested the central government to meet the wage bill of another lot of 3,000 employees. Under the Prime Minister's employment package for displaced youths, the central government had asked the state government to reserve 3,000 posts in the state and another 3,000 posts in the central sectors. But the state government had two limitations. First, under the state constitution there was no provision for reserving posts for any particular community. Secondly, the state had weak financial position and could not bear the cost of meeting the wage bill of 3,000 employees. Official sources said that "we shall fill another set of 3,000 posts the moment we get sanction from the government of India." "The sources made it clear that there was need for creating more than 6,000 jobs because the government had received more than 12,000 applications from the unemployed youth belonging to the displaced families." Asked whether there was any response from the union government to the state government's plea for enhancing the monthly cash relief in favour of the migrant families, the sources said that the centre has agreed in principle to hike the cash relief. They said the state government had recommended 100 per cent increase, from Rs 4000 to Rs 8000, but "we have so far not received any information whether the centre would accept our recommendation or increase the cash relief by 50 per cent."
