| Mufti slams NC for "being partial and biased against 3 J&K regions" | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 14: Known for his "ability" of holding his cards close to his chest and avoiding vocal criticism of his opponents, PDP patron and former chief minister, Mufti Mohammad Syed today went all out against arch rival National Conference, charging it with being "partial and biased" against the three J&K regions -- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. "While NC is very selective and arbitrary in releasing development funds for the three regions, PDP had carved out a path of their equitable development without any bias when it was in power in alliance with Congress," he said in a meeting of PDP card holders of Jammu urban here. "During the tenure of PDP-Congress coalition, all elected representatives, irrespective of their party affiliations, were involved in development process and equal funds were distributed to all regions and sub-regions", he added. The Mufti reitrated his party's commitment to remove regional disparities, saying his government had set an example of equitable and balanced development in Jammu and Kashmir. "Credit goes to the PDP-Congress regime that treated all regions equally for the first time after 1947," he added, maintaining that it was only after 2002 that successful efforts were made to empower the three regions to remove the sense of inequality and discrimination among them. He claimed that the PDP-led coalition regime had laid a foundation of mutual trust and confidence among the people of different regions and sub-regions of the state. "Even as our government treated all regions equally, backward and ignored regions were given special attention", the Mufti asserted, challenging NC to come forward with any evidence of discrimination with any region or sub-region during his regime. "During our regime, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sanctioned a whopping amount of Rs 24,000 cr for the development of the state. Unlike present regime, our government involved local MLAs in all development programmes without any political considerations", he said and added, "The PDP-Congress regime had set an example of delivering good governance." Assailing the NC-Congress government over its "weak" recruitment policy, the Mufti said his government had recruited more than one lakh youth in government jobs in a transparent manner. "Not even a single undeserving candidate was recruited during our regime," he claimed. He said it was because of the efforts of his government and the central government that peace was restored on borders from Kathua to Kargil. Pointing towards acute shortage of ration and deteriorating power condition, he said government had to explain to the people why situation had been worsening with every passing day. The meeting was also addressed by party vice-president Trilok Singh Bajwa, general secretary Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Daman Bhasin, A K Sawhney, Dr Mohammed Shafi, MLA Basharat Bukhari, MLA Abdul Haq, Falail Singh, R K Bali, Suram Singh, Deepinder Kour, H R Chargotra, Ashok Jogi, Rashid Malik, Hussain Ali Bafa, Ashok Bhat, S K Raina, Mohinder Singh Kotwal, Rafiq Malik, Rajinder Manhas, Nadeem Khan, Billowria and Jagjit Singh. |
