| Saroori pays surprise visit to city roads | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 14: Minister for Roads & Buildings, GM Saroori today paid surprise visits to BC Road, Jewel Chowk, Gandhi Nagar and Indira Chowk in Jammu to check the quality of bitumen being used in the macademisation of roads at these places. Saroori directed the engineers to ensure that the road improvement is done without any delay or loopholes and warned against any compromise in quality standards. He said the concerned Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers would be held responsible for any unattended patches found anywhere. He said the roads should not only be made smooth for passage but should also look beautiful. The second phase of massive macdamisation of city and urban roads is all set to begin across the state while in Jammu it has taken off following the soaring day temperature. As part of the endeavours of the coalition government, improvement of roads with sizeable funding had been taken up last year covering major part of the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and its second phase is currently in progress. Earlier, the Minister held a meeting with Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other officers of R&B to review the measures being taken for achieving optimum coverage of macdamisation in city roads. This, he said, is important keeping in view the ensuing tourism season in Kashmir and ongoing pilgrim rush in view of the Navratra. Sarrori said Jammu being gateway to Kashmir Valley needs good roads as thousands of people throng the city each day. Addressing the meeting, the Minister also directed utilisation of funds under Centrally Sponsored Schemes and their completion in time. He also asked the engineers to work in tandem with Jammu Municipal Corporation to remove the garbage from the city roads.
