| Exploit natural resources to generate employment: Vohra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 14: Saying that Jammu and Kashmir is bestowed with rich flora and herbal treasure and other natural resources, Governor NN Vohra stressed the need for effectively exploiting these resources for generating wealth and employment avenues in the state. The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing at the Prize Distribution Function of the 45th Annual Flower Show held at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), here this evening. First Lady, Usha Vohra, was the Guest of Honour, on the occasion. Governor said that the Sher-e-Kashmir Universities of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Kashmir and Jammu, as well as IIIM and other institutions of higher learning have done considerable research work but most of the outcomes have still to be transferred from the precincts of the labs to the farmers to benefit the growers. He said that the new research findings, improved technology and the latest approaches have to be effectively utilized for the growth of agriculture and floriculture and cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. Referring to Flower Show, Governor said that it was a very lovely collection of a large number of flower species. He suggested to the IIIM to establish a model nursery to supply certified flower seeds, bulbs and saplings for promoting high class flower cultivation in the state. Governor and the First Lady gave away 19 trophies and 200 prizes to the best adjudged entries in various categories. They also interacted with the prize winners and enquired about the flower species they are growing. Governor's Rolling Trophy for the best performance by an institute was won by OC 22 Amn Coy, Nagrota and overall Chandra Wahi Memorial Running Trophy was won jointly by Lt. Gen. Rameshwar Roy and OC 22 Amn Coy, Nagrota. Likewise, RRL overall Runner-up Trophy of the Show went to DN Chauhan, General Manager, Hotel Asia, Jammu. Among the prize winners included J&K Bank for garden maintenance. The Governor and the First Lady went around the floral exhibits and evinced keen interest. Earlier, Director, IIIM, Jammu, Dr Ram Vishwakarma in address, gave a resume of the functioning of the IIIM and the details of the Flower Show.
