| Slathia visits Vijaypur, adjoining areas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 14: Stressing the need to elect honest people in the coming Panchayat elections to ensure speedy and timely execution of various development projects and proper implementation of various welfare schemes, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia today said that people's participation in the governance process at gross root level is a must. Addressing a series of public meetings at Symbalyali, Thlori, Badhori and Bhekhri villages in Vijaypur block of Samba district, the Minister said that Government is determined to provide basic amenities of life including healthcare, quality education, potable water and un-interrupted power supply to the people at their door steps. He said the lanes and drains in every village would be improved to the satisfaction of the people besides providing better road connectivity. At Thlori, Slathia inaugurated a project comprising improvement in lanes and drains of the area. He issued on the spot instructions for the construction of two public convenience units, one each for male and female. Responding to the demands, the Minister said that opening of a Primary Health Centre and up-gradation of Government Girls Middle School would be taken up with the concerned Departments for early consideration. Minister said that for construction of a stadium, he has already released Rs 5 lakh which would be utilized before the end of financial year and assured more funds would also be released during the next financial year for early completion of the project. He also said that a community hall would also be constructed in the village at a cost of Rs 10 lakh to be released during the next financial year. Slathia said instructions have been issued to the concerned to streamline the distribution of three months free ration to the people affected by dry spell. Later, the Minister watched the final cricket match being played between Vijaypur Cricket Club and Domana Cricket Club under a tournament which began a week ago. Slathia announced a reward of Rs 10,000 to the winning team. He was told that about 30 cricket teams took part in the week long tournament.
