Early Times Report
Jammu , Mar 15: The activists of SC/ST/OBC Confederation were restricted by the police to stage protest march towards Civil Secretariat against alleged anti-SC/ST/OBC policies of the Govt.According to reports, the police did not allow the activists of SC/ST/OBC confederation to hold protest march to gherao Civil Secretariat due to imposition of Section 144 CrPC around Civil Secretariat area.
Amidst sloganeering, hundreds of members of SC/ST/OBC assembled outside Press Club Jammu where they held protest dharna and later took out a protest march towards Civil Secretariat. When they reached J.P Chowk, police contingent led by SDPO Bakshi Nagar asked the protesters that they would not allow them to stage protest rally and stopped the protesters to proceed further to Civil Secretariat, which led into minor shuffle between police and protesters. The protestors were carrying placards and banners depicting their demands.
Coming down heavily on the non-committal attitude of the State Govt in dealing with the problems and demands of marginalized sections of the society, R K Kalsotra, State president, All India Confederation of SC/ST Organization said that SC/ST/OBC communities were left with no other option than to come on roads in support of their rights. R K Kalsotra, president of Confederation said by imposing ban on inter-district recruitment, the government seeks to unconstitutionally deprive the community people of their rights. Speakers also said they had repeatedly urged the state govt to refrain from banning inter-district recruitment, attempting dilution of ST status and delayng to implementation of Mandal Commission report in toto.
