| Omar launches Rs 31 Cr Rangil WSS feeding in Palpora | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Mar 15: "Present Government is determined to restore the old glory of Srinagar City which was ignored during last several years in all respects" said the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, after inaugurating Rs 31 crore Rangil Water Supply Scheme (WSS) at Palpora here today. Chief Minister was accompanied by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Political Advisor Davinder Rana, MLA Batmaloo, Irfan Shah, MLC Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Commissioner /Secretary Planning and Development, B.B.Vyas and other officers of ERA, PHE and irrigation. Omar said, "I believe in work rather than mere announcements". He said the present scheme, which will provide drinking water to maximum areas of the Srinagar City, is an indication of the fact that the present coalition Government is result oriented. He complimented the Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, for successfully launching the scheme and working seriously on it to provide portable drinking water to Srinagar and also revival of old Chatabal Weir. Remembering the old days, Omar recalled when Shikara reception used to be accorded to many dignitaries in the past. "We want to make it again a choicest place of tourism". Omar said Rs. 30 crore were allotted this year for macdamisation of roads while adequate funds for the next fiscal would be earmarked for completing remaining road works in Srinagar. He announced Rs 40 lakh for drainage from Shalteng to Maloora system in Palpora and its adjoining areas. Besides, 300 plots shall be developed for the displaced families coming under road widening work from Chatabal to Parimpora. He, however, said no allotee would be allowed to sell the alloted plot. He further said that shop owners coming under road widening would also be rehabilitated as he would not like to render anybody jobless.Chief Minister said a large number of educated youth are unemployed but observed that the Government cannot provide employment to everyone, so it becomes necessary to create avenues in the private sector also. Omar reiterated that his Government is committed to regain the trust of the people and said during the last 21 years there is no example when any agency of the security forces has handed over its officer to our police for further investigation, as has been done in the case of unfortunate killing of Zahid Farooq recently. He said the Government has taken firm stand on the rehabilitation of those youth who have crossed LOC and are living in a miserable condition in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur. "Our Government succeeded in convincing Central Government for their rehabilitation", he said.
