| Dy CM behind attack on Naz's cavalcade: Gujjars | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 16: Leveling serious allegations against the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Jammu and Kashmir Khana Badosh Gujjar and Bakerwal Tehrik-e-Insaaf and All J&K Gujjar Conference have accused him of hatching a conspiracy to make "murderous" attack on Vice-Chairman Gujjar and Bakerwal Advisory Board Chairman, Bashir Ahmed Naz at Surankote couple of days back. However, Gujjars have also described the "attack" as a part of ongoing groupism within the Congress, saying that they would not tolerate if any harm is made to the Gujjar leader. They also demanded CBI inquiry into the incident, besides revamping of entire district administration. "We have nothing to do with the groupism within Congress which has been divided into Azad and Soz groups. Our Gujjar leader was attacked by some miscreants on the directions of Deputy Chief Minister who had visited the Poonch district on March 10," Aslam Kohli, president of the Tehrik told reporters here. He further, "The sitting MLA Surankote, Choudhary Mohammad Aslam managed the visit of Deputy Chief Minister in order to gain patronage of the people and to divert the attention of the general public from the proposed visit of Bashir Ahmed Naz to Rajouri and Poonch district fixed for March 12 and 13." Terming attack on Gujjar leader as "assault on entire tribe community", Kohli alleged, "During his visit to Poonch district on March 10, Tara Chand had called a meeting officials of district administration and police asking them not to allow Member of Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma and other accompanying members Gujjar community to assemble at Surankote." Pointing figures over the visit of the Deputy Chief Minister, the Gujjar leader said, "There was no logic of his visit to Poonch district as Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) had asked senior leaders including MP Madan Lal Sharma, Medical Education Minister RS Chib, vice chairman Gujjar and Bakerwal Advisory Board Bashir Naz, MLA Sherif Niaz, vice chairman Other Backward Classes (OBC) Kuldeep Raj Verma, and vice chairman Pahari Advisory Board Mustaq Bukhari, to visit the border district." "Before the arrival of cavalcade of the VVIPs, some people at the instance of sitting MLA Surankote assembled at Surankote, collected sticks, pebbles and bricks and after the arrival of VVIPs they committed murderous attack on the Naz and his supporters damaging more than 70 vehicles," Kohli charged. He further charged that the intention of the local administration became clear when no security was deployed at the place of venue. "The lawlessness and anarchy has been created by the district police. The motto behind the attack on the peaceful viewers and the VVIPs was to create chaos and confusion among the general public which had assembled there to welcome the veteran Gujjar leader," he said.
