BJP delegation calls on CM highlight issues

Jammu, Mar 17: Former BJP State President Dr. Nirmal Singh, State Vice President Bali Bhagat and members from Ramban, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar called on the State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and submitted a memorandum containing a number of issues and demands including total politicization of the developmental works besides criteria for providing security to the leaders of political parties in the State. They alleged difference in allotting security cover to leaders of BJP. Delegates said those with no responsibility in their parties like NC and Congress have been provided police vehicles and a number of security personnel, in this context they urged CM to direct the DGP to review the security cover of all such persons, withdraw the same which has been provided under influence and frame a clear policy.
Delegates apprised that more than 25,000 SPOs, working as operational policemen and discharging duties in far flung and militancy-affected area are paid less and they need to be regularized so that they are in a position to support their families. About provision of compensation to the families of those who lost their lives during the Amarnath land row BJP leaders said that despite assurances government nothing has been paid yet to victims and demanded adequate compensation for them. Custodial death of Rajneesh Sharma who was allegedly kidnapped to Ram Bagh Police Station in Srinagar wherein he was tortured to death by the police, delegates asked CM to adopt a humanitarian approach and as an individual take the matter seriously and order thorough inquiry and punish the guilty police officials.
Delegates informed CM that Doda district has a potential of generating more than 10,000 MW of power and urged for starting execution work on all the projects for which all the technical and other formalities have already been completed. They also suggested starting new survey of mini micro-hydel electric projects at Dessa, Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar, as these projects will not only generate electricity but provide jobs to thousands of unemployed youth. Number of other demands including opening up of Degree College in Paddar, Batote, and Kashtigarh, grant of tehsil status to Assar and Kashtigarh, construction of Bhaderwah-Chamba and Basohli-Bhaderwah roads, constitution of Dessa Development Authority for promotion of tourism, expedition of work on Kishtwar-Dachchan road and enhancement in the salaries of Ex-servicemen equaling to police constable and others were also highlighted. CM gave a patient hearing to the BJP leaders and assured of proper action on all of the issues and demands. The prominent among others who met CM include State Secretary, Sunil Sharma, Ravi Kumar and Satish Kumar (Dachan) Janki Nath (Padder) and Sandoor Singh (Doda)
