Early times report
Tsetan Namgyal is the first candidate of NC & UTF combine who got elected from Nobra constituency by defeating the nearest congress rival Tsewang Rigzin by the margin of 970 votes.
Some of the excerpts of the interaction between our correspondent and Tsetan Namgyal
Tsetan Namgyal's selection was tactical. He went as independent but carried along NC support Congress journalist-turned politician Tsewang Rigzin lost by 100 votes which is constituency in 2002 election. Sonam Wangchuk, an independent candidate, was elected unopposed from the Nobra Assembly segment in the 2002 election. Sonam, also known as Pinto Narboo had contested on the plank of Ladakh union territory front and there was completely unanimity on the issue and no other candidate filled nomination papers.
Tsetan Nam-gyal defeats Tsewang Rigzin of Congress by a margin of 930 votes. He is doing a yeoman job in his constituency. He wants a tunnel at Zojila pass and Khardongla pass. For next 6 years, he has a comprehensive plan.
The Nobra division is divided into 3-4 sections. He wants to set up micro hydal project and sub division headquarters at district.
The Nobra consists of fodder belt, agricot belt and dairy belt. He want to make Nobra a model constituency, better transport facilities between Leh, Kargil and Nobra. He compliments government for opening of route to Turtuk area. He is the first NC candidate who won from Buddist majority area and remained MOS Tourism for three years and MOS Agriculture for three years during 1996-2002.
Tsetan Namgyal resigned for UT (for Ladakh) in 2002 and came under bahner of UTF.
He did some other commendable job like linking of Kobat bridge, bringing of diesel generating stations, many centrally sponsored scheme. He also said that the Siachen Glacier is in his constituency, and half of population employment in the region is given by Army. Due to human waste at Siachen, which was 111Km long has been reduced to 70 Km.
The present coalition government is doing a fine job under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, and will complete its full term. The government should give a little more attention towards our areas as it is one of the neglected area of the state.
