| 1,11,087 kanals under use of Army in Kargil: Sagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 17: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar on behalf of Minister for Home today informed Legislative Council that 1,11,087 kanals of land is in occupation of Army in district Kargil. Sagar said the land under occupation of army included 1,07,303 kanals and 13 malas is state land while 3783 kanals and 16 marlas is private land. Responding to a question by Aga Syed Ahmed Rizvi, the Minister said that in addition, an area of 96858 kanals of land has been notified at Khurbathang Field Firing Range for a period of 10 years vide a notification SRO 73 dated March 8, 2004. Replying further, Sagar said no formal allotment has been made by any authority adding that the state lands have been occupied by the army at different points of time and similarly the private land were also taken over by it from the land owners at different points of time through direct negotiation and hiring which were subsequently regularized for payment of rentals. Minister informed the House that the concern of the member has already been taken up while negotiations are on with the army authorities to vacate the lands in use.
