| Police making efforts to solve theft cases: Chib | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 17: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib today said that that the Police on its part has been making all out efforts to solve the theft cases professionally, as can be seen from the fact that during 2008, out of 2069 theft cases registered in Kashmir Zone, 741 were solved and property worth Rs 4. 81 crore was recovered. Similarly, during the year 2009, out of 2704 registered theft cases, 1048 were solved and property of Rs 4.94 crore was recovered. Replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved jointly by Abdul Gani Vakil, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Murtaza Ahmad Khan, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah and Naresh Kumar Gupta in Legislative Council today, the Minister said that as far as theft case in Dooru is concerned, a case FIR No 25/2010 under section 457, 380 RPC was registered on March 5 last at Police Station, Dooru on the complaint of Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Fateh Mohammad Bhat of Mir Maidan Dooru regarding a burglary in the house of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat son Fateh Mohammad Bhat of Iqbal Colony Nathipora, Dooru. Chib informed the House that during the course of investigation, it was found that nobody was residing in the house and that the burglar(s) had entered the said house and broke open the locks of many boxes and almirahs. However, the details of the items stolen could not be ascertained as the house owner was not available. He said the scene of occurrence was photographed and the services of Forensic Science Laboratory were also utilized in the investigation. A number of suspects are being questioned and efforts are on to solve the case as quickly as possible, the Minister added. The legislators, who had called the attention of the government towards the situation that has arisen due to failure of police to nab the culprits involved in thefts in various parts of valley in general and district Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla in particular. These MLCs alleged that some unscrupulous police personnel are hell bent upon bringing bad name to the department as they have been hand in glove with the thieves. In response, the Minister denied the accusations saying that there is no nexus as such at all between police and burglars.
