Cut short yatra period: Geelani

JAMMU: Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani today said supporting the on-going movement was obligatory on every Kashmiri. He also urged the government to cut short Amarnathji Yatra period and the number of pilgrims as well.
According to reports, Geelani while addressing a gathering at Langat Wednesday said that the army had occupied huge areas of land across the state. "In Shopian a huge forest area has been occupied and the army has plans to fell five lakh green trees", he said.
Geelani said it had dawned on the army that they had to leave Jammu Kashmir sooner or later. "They want to loot the state before leaving", he said.
Geelani urged the government to cut short Amarnath yatra period and also the number of pilgrims to ensure environmental preservation. "The yatra used to be a fifteen-day affair. Now it has been stretched to four months", he said.
Geelani also urged the people to boycott the forthcoming Municipal elections.
