| Bhalla, Chib distribute relief worth Rs 2 crore to refugees | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 18: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla and Minister for Medical and Technical Education Prof. Rajinder Singh Chib today jointly distributed 146 cheques worth Rs. 2 crore as land deficiency compensation to displaced persons of 1947 at Maralian in R. S. Pura. MLA R. S. Pura, Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Manoj K Dwivedi, Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Evacuee Property, Abdul Majid Wani and other senior officers of Revenue, Evacuee Property, R&B, PDD, Health and PHE departments were present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said that the Central and State Governments are fully aware about the problems being faced by displaced persons in their respective areas. He said that due to the concerted efforts of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Centre has provided Rs. 49 crore to the Government for providing relief to refugees for those who were displaced during 1947. He said that the compensation is being distributed among the deserving families by conducting open darbars in their respective areas. The Minister said that the Government has enhanced the amount of compensation from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 1.50 lakh per family. He said the Government has recently regularized two refugees’ basties in Jammu at Gaddigarh and Bhour camp. He asked the left out deserving families to approach the revenue authorities for verification so that the compensation could be provided to them at par with others. Bhalla asked the officers to work in close coordination and come up to the expectations of the people. He said that Centre has also sanctioned Rs. 71 crore for drought hit areas of the State. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Medical, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports Prof. Chib said that world-class sports infrastructure is being developed in all the three regions of the State to enable youth withstand competition in sports both at State and National levels. Chib said that most of refugees’ families belong to R. S. Pura adding that Coalition Government was committed to address all the hardships of refugees on priority adding that measures are underway to get admissions to their wards in various Professional Colleges and Universities across the country. Earlier, Bhalla inspected the mecadimisation work from Cremation Ground Sanjay Nagar to Digiana Pulli and modernisation of Sanjay Nagar Park being developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh. |
