| SKUAST-J organises training on ‘Kala Zeera’ cultivation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 18: The Agro-Forestry division of University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu today organised a day-long training programme on “Cultivation of Kala Zeera” in Kishtwar. The programme was organised under the project on ‘Kala Zeera’ funded by Horticulture Technology Mini Mission, Government of India. The officers from the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forests, besides farmers from Paddar, Chattru and Marwah attended the training programme. The farmers were imparted training on various aspects of cultivation of Kala zeera in Paddar valley. The training programme was inaugurated by N A Shah, Additional District Development commissioner, Kishtwar . While addressing the farmers and extension personals he stressed upon to adopt the modern scientific techniques to harness maximum potential of cash crops like saffron and ‘Kala Zeera’ from this region. Later, he also released package of practices developed by the university in local language for use by the farming community. Packets of bio- control agents were also distributed to the farmers who attended the training programme. Dr. S.K .Gupta, Associate Professor& PI conducted the inaugural function and collected the feedback from the participants regarding the problems being faced by them in the field so that the scientist could plan their research activities accordingly. Expert lectures were delivered by Dr Sanjay Khajuria and Dr. Brajeshwar Singh.
