| Scarcity of funds leads to "crippling" of some deptts in Engineering College | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 18:Approved under AICTE 16 years back, the Government College of Engineering and Technology is still "headless" and sans funds to take up the construction work of electronic and communication, and electrical engineering departments. This sensational disclosure was made by Higher Education Minister in written reply to a question by BJP MLA Bharat Bhushan in the House Thursday. The minister informed the House that the state government had completed construction work of computer, civil engineering, common lecturer hall and hostel block in phase-1. In Phase II, mechanical engineering block was completed, while the construction work of electronics and communication and electrical engineering departments would be taken up subject to the availability of funds, he said. The minister said at present, 37 laboratories were available in the new and old campuses. All practicals were being conducted in the GCET, Jammu. Replying to a query with regard to appointment of a permanent principal in the college, the minister said the post had been referred to Public Service Commission and the selection was still awaited. He said the selection of the principal also got delayed due to non-finalisation of recruitment rules. He said the faculty in the college had been appointed as per AICTE norms. Though formal notification for adoption of AICTE pay scales was issued under SRO-61, the same needed some amendments for which the case was taken up with the finance department which finally notified the amendment under SRO-72 dated 23-02-2010 and the further process for preparing the recruitment rules was being initiated as per AICTE norms.
