3/18/2010 10:30:45 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 18: Lady advocates in Bar Association Jammu under the chairmanship of Vice President Surinder Kour condemned PRC disqualification bill presented by LC Private Members Bill on marriage of a female permanent resident of J&K State with non-permanent resident of J&K will loose their PRC.
Lady advocates observed that the bill was presented by Murtaza Khan Member of BAJ who is also MLC and who himself is a legally read person. Women advocates said that it is not a qualifying bill rather a disqualifying bill and is really deplorable that the bill was tabled on Women’s Day when the Center was all marching forward to empower the woman by grating 33% reservation in Parliament & State Legislature and in the state the rights of women already held by the Court, were being withdrawn.
Surinder Kour while addressing media persons said that the bill is not only gender biased or discriminatory against the women but is purely politically motivated as it stated that it will not be applicable to those who have their own “personal law. JNF
