| Kalakote mine workers suspend strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 18: On the intervention of Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia, workers of coal mine, Kalakote have called off their 15 days chain hunger strike and resumed normal working. They are demanding implementation of 6th Pay Commission recommendations. Addressing the workers at Kalakote, the Minister made it clear that benefits of the 6th Pay commission recommendations cannot be extended to the loss making Corporations at this stage adding that the final decision about the matter is under consideration of the Government. However, he enjoined upon the workers to resume their functioning and ensure manifold increase in production to become self reliant which, he said would help the corporation employees to get full benefit. With regard to other demands, Slathia issued directions to the concerned authorities to come up with a comprehensive proposal in this regard. He assured the workers that the interests of the poor mine workers would be protected and genuine problems would be addressed forthwith. Managing Director, JKML, senior functionaries and union leaders were also present on the occasion.
