| PRD Bill likely to be taken up at NC-Cong coordination Committee | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 19: In order to prevent the two ruling coalition partners- the National Conference and the Congress- from facing any crisis, the issue of the Permanent Resident Disqualification) Bill may be discussed in the coordination committee of the two parties. Though the Congress leadership is sure that the National Conference leadership would not be in favour of precipitating a crisis in the ruling coalition it holds chair in Legislative council and the Law Minister responsible for a situation in which the PDP members private Bill was introduced in the Council. Senior Congress leaders said that the chairman should have first discussed the issue with the law minister and the senior Congress ministers. They said that the issue has shown that it has the potential of kicking up regional and communal tension and as such there was need for the Law Minister to judge the seriousness of the matter. In reply to a question, one senior Congress leader said that Delhi in general and the Congress high command in particular have conveyed their reservation against the Bill. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, according to reports reaching here from New Delhi, has received a hint that the National Conference should oppose the adoption of the Bill directly or indirectly..Reports said that he has been told that the congress members will not suppoprt the Bill and without the congress support the Bill could not be adopted by the state legislature. .Indications are that the Bill may not come up for discussion and debate in the Council in the current session.Or a way would be found out so that when the Bill was put to vote it did not receive the required support in the council. Experts said that once the Bill was sent to the Assembly opposition by the BJP,the Panthers Party,JSM and the Congress will ensure its defeat.Hence the Chief Minister has been told that since the Bill would be defeated there was then no fun in supporting it which could result in the snapping of ties between the National Conference and the Congress. Congress leaders said that the sentiments on the controversial Bill were as hot as they were during the row over diversion of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board which led to the fall of the Congress-PDP Government.
