| Tral, most backward and neglected area from last 30 years: Mushtaq Ahmed Shah | | | SANDEEP BHAT EARLY TIMES REPORT At, 53, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah of PDP is new entrant in Assembly snatching seat from NC. NC has fielded a new face but Shah dominated. GN Bhat of NC was elected from this constituency in 2002 elections defeating his nearest congress rival by a margin of 309 votes. Mushtaq Shah talked to ET correspondent on his constituency some of the excerpts. Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, a social worker and businessman got mandate from PDP in 2008 and fought assembly elections, which he won with a margin of 3807 votes, defeating NC Mohd Ashraf Bhat. He secured around 10,500 votes out of total 37000 votes polled in Tral constituency. As far as Tral constituency is concerned, the south Kashmir constituency in saffron rich district of Pulwama has a significant proportion of Sikh population but never a member of community has been elected from here even though they contested well. The constituency was presented by Abdul Gani of NC in 1957 and also in 1962 assembly elections. Ali Mohd Naik won the 1967, 1972 and 1983 Assembly elections. Mohd Subash Bhat of NC won from here in 1977 while as Ghulam Nabi Naik won again of NC in 1987. Later, Ali Mohd Naik later joined NC and won this seat in 1996 Mushtaq Shah is a new entrant and want to see Tral as a developed and model constituency during his tenure. He had a several dreams about Tral, which remained backward, neglected and defeated with militancy. Still, Tral area is still believed to be one of the militancy effected area as we see several incidents of militancy taking place. The recent incident happened in Dadsora village, where lot of residential area got collateral damage after encounter with militants. Mushtaq demands adequate compensation to the affected people of Dadsora village. He visited the place on spot and assured the people of proper relief and compensation. Mushtaq feels that central government should take proper steps regarding Kashmir problem and it should be resolved. Pakistan, and Geelani and others should be included in talks as they can play an important role in resolving the long pending issue. On PDP, he said, this party is truly representing the aspiration and expectations of the people of state and the teachers like Mufti Mohd Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti are symbol of peace. He want Tral to come on tourism map of India and world as there is more scenic beauty than Pahalgam, Gulmarg etc. Shikargah is one of the most beautiful place in our constituency as Maharaja Hari Singh used to visit this place off and on. During Sheikh Abdullah’s tenure as CM, Cabinet meeting was conducted in our area. Nagberan another famous place should come on Tourism map. Tarsar, Marsar are two beautiful lakes, which can be used by government for PHE, irrigation and power. Our area has remained neglected and needs immediate attention at an earliest. Tral –Bugmad-Leh and again and Syedabad –Khrew roads will shorten the distance between Srinagar and Pahalgam, and it will be only 50 kms. The people of the area will get economic benefit by the construction of these two roads. Tral has remained backward and neglected for 30 years as there is no industrial unit, no unemployment avenues, no tourism structure, no health facilities, no proper roads, drinking water, electricity and many more. Sheikh Abdullah’s demand of giving SDM office still not met, this is an irony. On self rule, he wants an open discussion and examination. He demands completion of sub district hospital, inclusion of science subjects in Degree College and proper facilities in Noorpora (Gairoo), Charusu, Medura, Batnoor and other areas.
