| Ten days NSS camp at MIER College concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 20: Ten days N.S.S. camp was organized at MIER College of Education with the theme "Hygiene & Environment" . The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Renu Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education. She blessed the students and highlighted the importance of N.S.S. in her inaugural address. To fulfill the main theme, different kinds of activities were conducted like athletics, sports, games, yoga and meditation to train volunteers physically and mentally. Number of trips organized for the volunteers at different places like Kabir Basti, Old age home, S.O.S. Home and Mother Teressa Home. The volunteers interacted with the dwellers of these places and made them aware about cleanliness and personal hygiene through different Nukad Nataks and presented recreational program for their entertainment. Cleanliness drive was an important feature of this camp in which the campus area was cleaned. The volunteers spread the awareness regarding Bio- degradable and Non Bio- degradable waste and placed two types of garbage bins in the campus. They also oriented the staff, students and menials responsible for disposing off the garbage. During the camp, various interactive sessions were conducted. Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director and Vice Principal MIER interacted with the volunteers regarding our "Education system". Dr. Kumkum Sharma from Acharya Shri Chand College of Medical Sciences provided valuable information on 'Blood Donation'. Faculty members also interacted with the volunteers. Dr. Surinder Kaur, Administrator interacted on the "qualities of Effective Teacher " Angela Gadroo interacted on "Importance of N.S.S.", Dr. Ira Bhan on " HIV AIDS". Miss. Ronika Sharma provided information regarding "Disability". Matches in different games were conducted like Kho-Kho, Basket ball, Cricket. Slogan, Poster - making and Quiz Competitions were held with various themes like AIDS, Women Empowerment, as well on Hygiene and Environment. In the Valedictory function Dr. Jasbir Singh, N.S.S. Program Co- ordinator Jammu University was the chief guest and Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER was the guest of honour. Principal Dr. Renu Gupta welcomed the chief guest, staff and N.S.S. volunteers. Dr. Jasbir Singh appreciated the college authorities and the Program Officer Poonam Soni for the successful organization of the camp and incorporating social activities which enriched the volunteers and helped in their personal growth. A very comprehensive report was presented by the program officer who also contained Case Studies of Kabir Basti a slum area and Mother Teressa Home, a home for dying and destitute. All the information will help the N.S.S. Unit to identify the problems being faced by the people and to find ways and means to help the persons in need. Dr. Arun K. Gupta expressed satisfaction on the comletion of the camp and exhorted the student to work hard and develop appropriate skills for all round personality development. A colourful cultural program was presented by the volunteers. Miss Sonali compared the program. Anjela Gadroo proposed a formal vote of thanks.
