| PDP delegation for free & fair in local bodies polls | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 20: A delegation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed by former Home Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri today called on Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B R Sharma and brought to his notice some vital issues regarding the forthcoming elections of local bodies. Deliberating various issues pertaining to the forthcoming elections, PDP delegation asked the CEO to initiate every possible steps to ensure free and fair elections as local bodies are the basic institution of democratic structure. Demanding transparency in the forthcoming civic bodies elections, PDP delegations asked the CEO to ensure that election voting cards be issued to all voters before starting of the election process. It was further demanded that in case authorities wouldn't be in a position to issue voting cards to all voters, alternative provisions should be made so that all voters can exercise their right to franchise in the elections. The delegation further demanded booth level verifications of the voters to ensure that only genuine persons can participate in the elections and bogus voters be deleted from the existing electoral rolls. PDP delegation also demanded that demarcated voters lists comprising total number of voters, details of wards etc. be given to the PDP. Delegation further asked the CEO to properly inform the political parties about reservations of wards for females in the civic bodies. Other members in the delegation included former Health Minister Abdul Gaffar Sofi and Rafi Ahmed Mir, MLA Pahalgam. CEO gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that free and fair elections be held.
