| JKNPP to agitate for separate assembly | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 20: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today said it would agitate for a separate assembly for the Jammu region as the present composition of the assembly does not allow the issues of Jammu region to figure in the House. "The two main parties of the state-the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - are 'Kashmir-centric' and engaged in their own politics of one-upmanship. As a result the issues concerning Jammu region were not finding adequate voice.....therefore, there is a need for two separate assemblies, one each for Jammu and the Kashmir Valley," Balwant Singh Mankotia, state president JKNPP told reporters here. "This government is working against the interests of Jammu region. It is pandering to whims and fancies of Kashmiri militants and stone-pelters, while the Jammu youth are not getting even small time opportunities to get into government services," he charged. He disclosed that the Panthers Party is organizing celebrations of its foundation day on March 23 at Parade Ground, Jammu. "The party would adopt two resolutions. It would propose for two separate assemblies for both the regions and second is permanent solution for Line of Control (LOC)," he maintained. "Until and unless permanent solution of Line of Control is not reached the peace could not prevail in the State and the vexed problem of militancy would remain in the State," he said.
