| Narrow escape for Elite Club on way to QFs | | Udhampur Cup Cricket Tournament | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Mar 21: In an interesting pre-quarterfinals stages game, Elite Cricket Club had narrow escape when the side registered a three-run win over Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Club that too in the last over to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ongoing Udhampur Cup Cricket Tournament at Sports Stadium, here today. Needing 182 runs to win the match, SMVDU Club lost the last wicket at a total of 178 runs with four deliveries to go. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Elite Club set a target of 182 runs with whole side bowled out in 33.2 overs of the 35 overs game. Vishal was top scorer from Elite Club with 34 runs while Nitin made a superb knock of 34. From SMVDU Club Tarun clinched three wickets to emerge as the most successful bowler, followed by Ishan, who bagged two. Later, chasing the target, SMVDU fell short of three runs to level the opponent total losing all their wickets in 34.2 overs. Rahul contributed maximum 49 runs while Abhay added 20. From Elite Club, Ayush and Rajesh shared two wickets each. For his quick-fire innings of 34 runs, Nitin was declared man of the match. Today’s match was officiated by Shekhar Modi and Dheeraj Sharma as umpires while Sahil maintained the score.
