| Peer Aafaq Ahmed, Third change since 1996 | | | Sandeep Bhat Early Times Report Peer Aafaq Ahmed of NC has brought third new face in Zadibal since 1996. He defeated Shahjan Dar of PDP who had won in 2002 as independent. This Shia dominated constituency city was represented by Shahjahan Dar, a NC rebel, in 2002 assembly elections. He won the seat by defeating his nearest rival Sadiq Ali of NC by a margin of 294 votes. While Dar polled 1,514 votes, Sadiq Ali polled 1,220. The total votes polled were 3,244 and the poll percentage recorded was 4.78. Ali was holding this constituency since 1977 when he lost to Dar. He talked to Early Times correspondent about his constituency. As is the case with almost all urban segments across the valley, this constituency too has rema-ined a strong bastion of the National Conf-erence. Zadibal constituency was represented by National Conference candidates Mirwaiz Ghulam Nabi, Zhabir Moham-mad Abdullah and Syed Abdullah in 1957, 1962 and 1967 Assembly polls respectively. In 1972, an independent candidate Saleem Anwar wrested the seat. This seat was continuously won by NC candidates Ghulam Ahmed Shunthu, Sheikh Abdual Rashid, Peer Mohammad Shafi in 1977, 1983, 1987 and 1996 Assembly elections. Sadiq Ali's hold on the constituency had been total and complete till he lost to a party rebel in 2002. On present NC- Congress coalition government he said that the present coalition government is doing commendable job in redressing the problems of the people of the state particularly of youth. As you know our CM Omar Abdullah who himself in his youth wants to help the youth of the state and for that purpose he already announce sher-e-Kashmir employment scheme for the unemployed youth of the state. On kashmiri Pandits return to their motherland he said that Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of the state and our valley is incomplete without them. In our constituency some families have return their homes and others will follow soon. Vichar Nag, Aunt Bhawan, Hari Parbat, are some of the famous Kashmiri Pandits habitats in our constituency. As far as zadibal constituency is concerned its starts from Gojwara to Soura and from Idgah to Sadarbal. Militancy has not effected that much our area. As you know my father Peer Mohd Shafi was the major killing in my area in 15th Oct 1990, inspite of the killing I still remain in my house at Zadibal. I never want to leave my people. I want my constituency to be developed as model constituency. The beautification of Nageen lake, Khushal Sar, Gilisar, Anchar Lake, Hazratbal are in offing. Roads, lane and drains are being taken up at priority and it will be completed soon. My message to the people is to have faith in us as we will deliver justice and will help all those who are in distress. |
