| 2-day state level workshop on Homoeopathy begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 21: Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma has said that Government WOULD take all necessary steps to promote AYUSH in the State. In view of increasing demand for Ayurvedic treatment, the Government has decided to upgrade the existing infrastructure in this sector to provide medicare facilities under Ayurveda, Yoga Unani, Sidha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH). The Minister was addressing a large gathering of retired and in-service AYUSH doctors at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University after inaugurating a 2-day Workshop on National Campaign on Homeopathic for Mother and Child Healthcare organized by the Directorate of Indian System of Medicines (ISM), here today. Underlining the need for granting special treatment to Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre in view of its peculiar hilly terrain, the Minister said that Government in consultation with other hilly States of the country will adopt a joint mechanism to avail special benefits for the development of AYUSH. He said that Group of hilly States, including Himachal Pradesh, Utteranchal and Arunachal Pradesh will seek changes in the existing para-meters and guidelines for implementing various schemes as these para-meters do not suit our topography and consequently the State suffers substantial loss in the health sector. In his welcome address, Director ISM, Dr. Abdul Kabir highlighted the importance for holding this workshop. He hoped that the participants will take advantage of the workshop and utilize their experience to upgrade their skills. Dr. Kabir said that Homoeopathic Wing was added in the ISM Department during 2007, as until 2003 there was no legislation in the State to regulate the Homoeopathic system of Medicines or to provide registration to Homoeopathic Practitioners. For further strengthening the functioning of the Department, a proposal for creation of 42 posts of Medical Officers (Homoeopathy) and 72 posts of Homoeopathic Pharmacist has been submitted to the Government, he added. Dr. Sita Ram Sharma, Consultant, Regional Research Institute, Shimla delivered his keynote address. Laying stress on the importance of the Workshop, Dr. Sharma said that the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has decided to launch a National Campaign to propagate and promote AYUSH systems in public health needs of the country with due emphasis on its inherent strengths. Homoeopathy is recognized as one of the National Systems of medicine and Government has taken steps in the sectors of Education, Research, Drug Development and Healthcare Services to develop Homoeopathy, he said. Prominent experts including Dr. Bindu Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Rajneet Kour, Dr Amita would deliver their lectures in the workshop.
