| Municipal Electoral Rolls’ schedule announced | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 21: The Schedule for revision of Municipal Electoral Rolls (MERs) in two Municipal Corporations, six Councils and 57 Committees has been announced. The election to these Local bodies would be held in the month of April-May, 2010.
As per the notification, the Electoral Rolls have to be revised in the prescribed manner before each General Election to a Corporation/Council/Committee or for any ward to fill a casual vacancy.
Accordingly the persons who have completed 18 years on January 1, 2010 shall only be eligible for registration as an elector in the MERs.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer B.R. Sharma draft rolls will be published on March 22, 2010 and aggrieved can fill their claims and objections up to March 31, 2010.
April 1, 2010 has been fixed the date for disposal of claims and objections. Preparation and printing of supplements of additions, deletions and corrections will be completed by April 10, 2010 and final publication of Electoral rolls will be issued on April 12, 2010.
People especially the concerned electors are requested to contact the respective District Election Officers (Deputy Commissioner), Electoral Registration Officers and Joint Commissioners of Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations. Details of designated Electoral Registration Officers/ Assistant Electoral Registration Officers are available in the office of District Election Officers of the concerned districts.
Further, the notification reads that a separate schedule will be issued for revision of MERs in respect of Municipal Committees of Tangmarg, Leh, Kargir, Sunderbani and after those Committees who have been seated after February, 2005.
