Early Times report
Jammu, Mar 22:
The PROLOGUE
Part I: Today's opening calls for an accentuation of the earlier mentioning about the diminishing audience that was vocally pronounced by the Director of play 'Be-libas' who while addressing in the end of the play started and finished saying, " Khali Kursiyion Se Kya Kahun? Shukriya" And the weak audience tried to respond to his paradox with a clap or two unknowingly about the load of sarcasm the handful of Jammu artists took home after this remark.
The ANALYSIS
Part II: The play Be Libas written and directed by Aziz Qureshi was a good attempt in pronouncing the social stigma of the system.
It mainly focused on the man-woman realities of the social world order wherein different aspects were highlighted through small different stories. Though the anecdotes were quite common and very often repeated in various modes on the proscenium, the enactments by the actors qualified for praise for their efforts in living up to the characters to their best possible potentials. However, usage of the dialect suffered some wavering faults where English words had to be intertwined within that caught the audience attention. Lights too faltered at many instances, a fault not acceptable from a presentation graded at par with national levels. Ashima Panday impressed in various roles. Mohan Yadav gave a glimpse of a mature actor as young Boss but looked overdone in elder's role. His lengthy monologues too irked at times that definitely had required the Director's cut. Aziz Qureshi himself in various roles was a treat to watch. Others who chipped in their pieces include Kajal Suri, Sachin Kathuria, Shivani Sharma, and Salim Zaidi. "The play provides the audience glimpses of social realities in which people are reflected as both victims and victimizers," Aziz Qureshi, the director of the play said.
Looking at the play closely one is able to grasp many such aspects of human life which aren't usually debated in the open. Belibaas in its own style portrays as to how simple, socially and morally defined relations are often twisted and how such twists end up violating traditionally accepted boundaries at home, at workplace and in the neighbourhood.
Overall the play was a good presentation of the social maneuvering of the contemporary system.
The EPILOGUE
Part III: Had the Director Aziz Qureshi who while sarcastically remarking over the absence of the audience in Jammu Abhinav Theater given a second thought to his oratory that what he presented on the Abhinav proscenium was the real essence of his Be-Libas whose main gist reflected in the conspicuous missing of the audience itself. Does this major factor not qualifies for introspection as what is wrong and where.
If this reporter have understood the gist of the play being pivoted on the abuse of social system through men and material, does the absence of the audience in majestic Abhinav not a part of it that should immediately call for another story idea for the directors and promoters at helm of art and culture to attempt for a courage for a candid representation rather than being critical. The irony starts from here only! |
