| Divided employees announce next phase of agitation | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 22: Even as the Government employees have announced the next phase of their agitation to pressurize the administration to concede their demands, differences among different employees' factions have also started cropping up amid blame game exercise.
While the Civil Secretariat employees, who had not participated in earlier strike calls made by the government employees, have also threatened to go on two days strike from April 5, two factions of the employees, Employees Joint Action Committee and Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) decided to sharpen their protest, but separately if the government fails to come up to the expectations of the employees.
The EJAC president, Ram Kumar Sharma said, "We have given four days' strike call on our own to restart our protest from April 3 to April 6 as government has failed to recognize our demands in right perspective. It is in coordination with the one given by Civil Secretariat Non-Gazzeted Employees Union that is joining in for two days' strike on April 5 and 6."
He, however, held Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) responsible for weakening the stance of employees and 'pursuing its own hegemony'.
The EJAC leader alleged that the JCC leadership has diverted from its actual stance and is advocating "heroism" in the garb of the protests which has diluted its stand on the basic demands.
"Hence we had to revert back to our own agenda that purely is based on restoring rights to the employees," said Ram Kumar Sharma.
Dismissing the claim of EJAC as "mere frustration", JCC chief Abdul Qayoom Wani said, "We hold our grounds firmly. We are fighting the government's nonchalant attitude towards ignoring the employees' rights and are remotely concerned with any personnel vendetta that EJAC holds against us."
He said that both the factions are fighting for the same cause and JCC is least bothered over the petty bickering as its steadfast goal is to get the rights secured for themselves.
"We had given 10 days' time to the government and now after the lapse of 15 days even, we have decided to launch an all-out campaign for seven days starting April 5," said Abdul Qayoom Wani adding, "It would be fight to finish".
In addition, Civil Secretariat Non-Gazzeted Employees Union has announced to strike work on April 5 and 6 if the government fails to consider their demands in right perspective.
" Though being the part of the system of the employees who have been striking for their rights since past few months, we had kept our integrities attached to our jobs, not causing any trouble, but now we are losing the confidence," said Nazir Ahmed Mir, president Civil Secretariat Non-Gazzeted Employees Union.
He said that a general consensus of the employees has been taken in this regard and the Union would be holding a two-day protest after March 31, the deadline given by the employees to the sate administration.
The employees have been demanding payment of sixth pay commission arrears, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years and HRA be raised from the present ceiling of 15 percent to 20 percent. |
