PCC likely to announce new state heads soon
7/24/2006 8:58:49 PM
Jammu, July 24 : Awaiting final nod of the party high command, office bearers and members of new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and State heads of its frontal organizations in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be announced within next few days.

According to highly placed sources within Congress, PCC chief and Minister of Youth Services and Sports Peerzada Mohd Sayeed is camping in New Delhi since last Saturday

for getting the party high command's final approval to the names of new PCC members as well as heads of Pradesh Mahila Congress, Sewa Dal and National Students Union of India (NSUI).

The new PCC, sources added, is likely to be small in size unlike the existing one, which has 90 members, including 24 vice-presidents, 24 secretaries and 16 general secretaries. Though the names of new PCC members and office bearers had been short listed by the state president in consultation with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad a month earlier, the list could not be finalized as a number of aspirants failed to find place in it, sources said.

"The PCC chief did not want any controversy within the party circles, owing to non-accommodation of several aspirants", a Congress leader said adding, "and this was one of the main reasons for the delay in the finalization of the names

However, the list is likely to get final nod this time as the Congress high command has desired not to delay the matter further in interest of the organization in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said adding that a thorough discussion with Mr Sayeed was on in New Delhi over the finalization of names of new PCC members as well as office bearers.

Once finalized by the high command, the names in new PCC shall be made public immediately as the matter has been pending for the last six months since election of Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed as its president.

Sources confirmed that the party has also short listed the names of new State heads of its frontal organizations such as Congress Sewa Dal, State Mahila Congress, and National Students Union of India (NSUI) etc.

However, Youth Congress president Mohd Amin Bhat is likely to be given an extension by the party high which has taken a compassionate view towards him in the wake of his getting injured in the militants' strike on Congress rally in Srinagar on May 5.
