| "Chehray" unmasks dual identity | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 23: On the day three of the five day long Theatre Festival at Abhinav Theatre Jammu, Dr. Shankar Shesh's play Chehray was staged on Tuesday. Directed by Sudesh Sharma for Theatre for Theatre production, the play was a fine comment on the societal transformation. Through the play the writer-director duo commented on all segments of society from upholders of religions to custodians of power. The play is actually a story about a couple and a funeral procession which got struck in a deserted building due to torrential rains. "This forms the basic backdrop of the play," says the director of Chehray Elaborating Sudesh says that Chehray is a rib tickling yet stinging satire; an expose of society especially the elite class. "Chehray as a play projects as to how respected persons wear masks, how on the surface they carry on masks with the charade of morality when beneath they compromise the very principles they hold dear in public," Sudesh says Through different scenes the play shows as to how the masks are peeled off to reveal true selves. Through the play the writer Dr. Shankar Shesh tried to throw light on those who live on the margins of the society. "Take for instance, those which the society banishes as immoral known in common parlance as prostitutes. Like other humans they too can turn a new leaf along with, for example the farming community which feeds us all provided they are allowed to do so," comments the writer of the play. Besides some select segments of the society, the play also commented on what is happening with our younger generation which is but our future. "Chehray is an attempt to expose the real face of modern society," Sudesh says. Those who participated in Chehray as artists included Sudesh Sharma, Parvez Sethi, Naresh Bhagat, Dwinder Saini, Deepak Arora, Gurmeet Kour, Neeru, Anil, Mannu, Vineet, Kapil Kalyan, Nourang, and Jarnail Singh Gogi.
